Nurses Ratify Agreement
WINNIPEG – Members of the Manitoba Nurses Union have ratified their tentative Central Table Agreement. The province wide vote was 89 per cent in favour of the contract.
The three and a half year agreement calls for a lump sum payment of 2 per cent, 1.1 per cent for pension deficit reduction over two years, and a 4 per cent salary increase in the third year.
Nurses also attained a jointly funded COLA fund for all health care workers covered by the Healthcare Employees Pension Plan (HEPP).
MNU President Sandi Mowat said that the bargaining committee is pleased with the strong endorsement by the membership.
“The positive ratification vote shows that our members felt that the agreement addressed their priorities – pension protection, COLA and remaining competitive.”
In addition, a long service increment of 2 per cent will also be paid in the third year to MNU nurses with 20 years or more experience.
The third year salary increase and long service increment puts MNU nurses at 90 per cent of the Ontario Prairie Average. The ratified agreement expires March 31st, 2013 and covers approximately 11,000 nurses throughout Manitoba.
